Valley Forge NHP with Big Canoes
Event Location: This event will be held at Betzwood Park in VFNHP, located at 150 Sullivan's Bridge, Norristown, PA 19403. (Betzwood Boat Ramp Lot) There will be a staff member from Schuylkill River Greenways and Take It Outdoors to help direct you to the parking area. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to confirm all necessary waivers have been signed.
Event Description: This program is a PADDLE ONLY adventure on the Schuylkill River at Betzwood Park in VFNHP. We'll be paddling in our two BIG canoes that are 26 ft. long! This event begins and ends at the same location in Betzwood Park. During this excursion you will paddle up and down the Schuylkill River taking in all the beautiful spring scenery and wildlife. As we’re paddling, one of the VFNHP Rangers will be joining us in the canoes to provide us with some historical facts about the park and its relationship with the river. Light drinks and snacks will be provided. All gear, certified guides, and food are included. Must be 16 or older to participate. This special event is limited to 8 participants.
What to Bring: All equipment, including canoes, paddles and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided. However, it is recommended that you bring the following items.
- Prefilled water bottle with at least 32 ounces of water per participant
- Sunscreen
- Insect repellent
- Hat & Sunglasses
- Water shoes or old sneakers (backless sandals and crocs aren’t recommended)
- Dry bag
Any items, such as cellphones or keys that you do not wish to bring on the water with you, can be left with staff prior to the start of the event.
Itinerary: Please note all times are approximate.
10:00AM – Introduction and water safety briefing at Betzwood Park
10:30AM – Begin guided paddle with 26ft canoes
11:15AM – Break on the water for snack and discussion with VFNHP Ranger
12:00PM – Arrive back at boat launch
