Lock 60 to Betzwood Park
Event Location: This Pedal & Paddle event will begin in Phoenixville at Lock 60, located at 400 Tow Path Rd, Mont Clare, PA 19453. There will be a staff member from Schuylkill River Greenways and Take It Outdoors to help direct you to the parking area. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to confirm all necessary waivers have been signed.
Event Description: This Pedal & Paddle program will begin at the Lock 60 boat launch in Phoenixville. We will start with check-ins, introductions, and then begin our 7.5-mile guided paddle down the river to Betzwood Park. During your excursion you’ll see the beautiful scenery and wildlife the Schuylkill River has to offer. When you arrive at Betzwood Park, we’ll gather around for a lunch break. After lunch, we’ll begin the 7-mile guided bike ride back to Lock 60. All gear, certified guides, and food are included. Must be 16 or older to participate. All events limited to 15 participants.
What to Bring: All equipment, including kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided. However, it is recommended that you bring the following items.
- Prefilled water bottle/s with at least 32 ounces of water per participant
- Sunscreen
- Insect repellent
- Hat & Sunglasses
- Water shoes or old sneakers (backless sandals and crocs aren’t recommended)
- Bike helmet (we do have extras if you don’t have your own)
- Dry bag
Any items, such as cellphones or keys that you do not wish to bring on the water with you, can be left with staff prior to the start of the event.
Itinerary: Please note all times are approximate.
9:30 AM – Check in and water safety briefing
9:45 AM – Begin 7.5-mile guided paddle down the Schuylkill River
12:15 PM – Arrive at Betzwood Park for lunch break
1:00 PM – Switch to bikes and have a safety briefing
1:15 PM – Begin 7-mile guided bike tour along the SRT
2:00 PM – Arrive back at Lock 60
